Free app in Google Play Store allows Bixby button to be remapped to Google Assistant

April 21, 2017
Samsung’s decision to prevent Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ users from remapping the dedicated Bixby button resulted in a range of comments from “Who cares,” to “How dare they!” Today, a new app has been added to the Google Play Store called BixRemap that will allow the button to be remapped to Google Assistant without requiring any rooting. All you need to do is install the app, toggle on one setting, and when the button is pressed, Google Assistant runs over Bixby.

It is a simple, basic app that developer Dave Bennett calls a test. He says that he might expand the capabilities …

April 21, 2017

It looks like there’s trouble in paradise, for early Galaxy S8 buyers in South Korea are struggling to get their hands on the phone – despite Samsung reassuring them the S8 is ready to fly and there will be no supply shortages.

Apparently, Sammy’s number crunchers under-calculated their initial stock and demand estimates, because supplies dried up after early pre-orders broke past the 1 million mark. Thus, the company extended the registration period for the S8 and S8+ until April 30, six days after the April 24th initial date.

Samsung cited “an imbalance …

April 21, 2017

Earlier this week when Sony announced it would put an end to Concept for Android updates for the Xperia X, many thought the Japanese company might start delivering these updates to another device.

That’s because Sony was a bit inaccurate in its official statement and said that “the next step will be to launch a community similar to the InTouch community for our upcoming Xperia XZ Premium.”

Since the statement confused a lot of Xperia fans, Sony posted a Q&A on the InTouch community forums to clarify the news about Concept for Android releases.

In March, the Alcatel Idol 5S was spotted on the GFXBench site, this time with a broader list of specs.

Some of the new information we learned from GFXBench last month included the 5.2-inch size of the display, …

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is the lesser-featured Galaxy J series smartphone the South Korean company plans to launch this year. We’ve already seen the Galaxy J7 (2017) going on sale in the United States under various names, while the Galaxy J5 (2017) has just been granted FCC’s approval and is likely to make its debut very soon.

The entry-level Galaxy J3 (2017) doesn’t pack any fancy features that would make it stand out from other handsets in the same price range. However, it looks like Samsung has decided to include Android 7.0 Nougat on board.

The smartphone that goes by model number …
