Which Are the Best Android VPN Apps

January 14, 2017

Most Android-powered smartphone and tablets come with a build-in VPN, however, the process of setting up a Virtual Private Network and connecting to one can be time-consuming, and at times, quite tedious. What Does a VPN Do? If you don’t know already, people mostly use VPNs in order to bypass geo-blocked content on sites like Netflix. But a VPN is a lot more than that; it’s also a protective tool that prevents your carrier and Internet Service Provider from monitoring your activities and throttling your speed. It’s also a smart idea to deploy a VPN every time you connect to a public network, and prevent any eavesdropping by a 3rd party. The fact is, every public hotspot has a couple of cybercriminals that are trying to access your device and…

HTC Desire 650 arrives in the UK in February

January 9, 2017

In two short days HTC is holding an event during which it’s expected to announce a new series of smartphones branded U: the U Ultra and U Play. Today however the Taiwanese company has decided to reveal that its most recent mid-range offering, the Desire 650, would be coming to Europe soon.

The Desire 650 was unveiled back in November of last year as a totally unimpressive successor to the Desire 630, itself just a few months old at that point. So far, however, its availability was confined to HTC’s native Taiwan.

That will all change in February, when the Desire 650 is scheduled to…

Apple releases statement over Consumer Reports MacBook Pro battery life tests

January 9, 2017

Last month, Consumer Reports released their report for the new 2016 MacBook Pro testing, which featured rather disappointing battery life results. But perhaps more perplexing was the incredible inconsistency in the results, with battery life varying from 3.75 hours to 19.5 hours.

Since then, Apple has been working with Consumer Reports to figure out what could be the source of this discrepancy and inconsistency with its own results. According to Apple’s statement, the reason is two-fold, with the first being the way the notebooks were tested and the other being a bug in…

Froyo finally dies in Google’s latest Android platform distribution chart

January 9, 2017

It’s that time of the month again, folks. Google has just updated its monthly Android platform distribution chart, and there’s some good news in the updated data. Android 2.2 Froyo, a version launched in May 2010, is finally installed on less than 0.1% of devices in the wild at the moment. That’s the threshold under which a version isn’t shown in the chart. So it’s time to say RIP Froyo.

The oldest iteration of Android that still has over 0.1% market share thus became Gingerbread, with 1%, followed by Ice Cream Sandwich with 1.1%. Thankfully their numbers are consistently declining from…
